Dear Members!

We have received the Council decision in regards to the old historic school building and stables in Alexandra at McDonald street.   The decision by Council retrospectively allows the demolition which happened some time ago, however it stops short of allowing the utter removal of the remaining walls.  Some of the walls have to be retained and some walls even have to be rebuilt to a 2.2m height.  After some discussion the management committee has decided to accept this decision by the Council and not to appeal to the Environment Court.

If any of you know of a compelling reason why COES should appeal, please contact me asap with the details.  Just because the committee makes a decision is not necessarily the end of it, it just means that whoever wants a different outcome has to convince me to take the decision back to our committee.

There you go, democracy in action.

Another thing about democracy is that we need the numbers, membership numbers that is.  So, to all of you who haven't yet renewed their membership for the 2010-11 financial year, please do so now (send a cheque for $10 to COES, PO Box 10 Omakau, reference: your name and membership).  And get some others to join as well!  The more members COES has the stronger our voice.  I would really like it if we could get our membership past the 100 mark this year.

Cheers
Richard Kohler
